"I look forward to the days I volunteer at Schofield. My relationship with the registrants, residents and staff is rewarding. My need to be needed is more than satisfied."
--Jean Graham - Adult Day Health Care Volunteer

"Thank you so much for the amazing opportunity I received by being a volunteer at Schofield. It was one of the best experiences in my life, one that I will never forget! The times I've spent at Schofield are ones which have made an imprint on my heart forever."
--Student volunteer

Volunteers are at the heart of Schofield. They visit residents, provide support in our Adult Day Health Care Program, work in the gift shop, lead activities programs, give clerical support, and offer their help in countless other ways. The time and service they devote to Schofield's residents, registrants and patients make our volunteers a vital component of the Schofield family.

Who volunteers?
Schofield's volunteers are as varied as the individuals we serve. Homemakers, retirees, students and professionals devote their time and talents to all of our programs.

How much time do I have to commit?
Volunteers offer their time weekdays and weekends, during the day or in the evenings, at a time which accommodates both their schedules and the needs of Schofield Residence. We ask our individual volunteers for a minimum commitment of 50 hours per year.

Can my community group volunteer?
Yes! We welcome community organizations as volunteers. We realize that life is hectic and many people can only volunteer on a one-time or sporadic basis. Schofield is happy to offer your group an opportunity to provide a valuable service. Some groups have sponsored bingo parties for our residents, helped with craft projects, assisted with concerts and other entertainment.

Do you provide training?
All volunteers receive a thorough orientation to Schofield and training by employees and other volunteers.

Why Volunteer?
Tangible benefits for volunteers include free parking, free meals, special recognition events, and more! However, the intangible benefits are what keep our volunteers coming back. As Volunteer Annie Szuis recently said, "It is rewarding - I gain more than I give!"

What do volunteers do?
Some ways volunteers at Schofield help include:
  • Leading ceramics & cooking classes, and card games
  • Assisting with monthly birthday parties and other Activities events
  • Transporting residents to activities, religious services, meals, and therapy sessions
  • Delivering residents' mail
  • Helping various departments with clerical work
  • Assisting on group outings to museums, concerts, and shopping malls
  • Visiting residents and providing companionship
  • Accompanying residents to physician appointments off-site
Schofield Residence Junior Board
Schofield's Junior Board has a long history of providing financial support to the Schofield Residence. Originally founded by the daughters of members of the Schofield Residence's Board of Directors, the object of the Junior Board is to raise funds for the comfort and enjoyment of the residents, registrants and patients of the Schofield Residence and its affiliated programs.

The Junior Board members also participate in Volunteer activities at the Nursing Facility. Junior Board membership is open to any individual, at least 18 years of age, who is interested in adding to the well-being of the Schofield Residence's residents, registrants and patients

What Are the Duties of a Junior Board Member?
Junior Board members assist in planning fund raising events, including the annual luncheon and card party. Members are expected to attend monthly meetings, which are held at the Schofield Residence on the fourth Thursday of every month from September through June.
